Sweet Molasses ...

{before}
{after}
What you're seeing is another product of my "USE IT or LOSE IT" weekend a few weeks ago. This rocking horse. If you even KNEW what he/she has been through the past 8 1/2 years. If you even KNEW.

Okay, if you must know.

June 2001, Jacksonville, Florida ... Kyle & I were moving out of our apartment into our 1st house. We were expecting our first baby ... a boy {name still undecided}. We had our U-Haul out front of the apartment & the young couple that lived below us gave us some gently used baby items they were no longer using. This rocking horse was one of those items. I wasn't crazy about the eyeliner & perm. Or its nose. But I was going to sand & paint over it ... and our baby boy was going to have a charming rocking horse for his room. Hand-painted by his mother. I got busy with other things ... and the rocking horse was put in the "someday" pile. Also known as the storage shed.

February 2005, Horse was put in another moving truck, then relocated to a top shelf of our new garage in Corpus Christi, Texas.

August 2007, Horse still had more of the country to see. On to Kansas City, Missouri! Yee Haw! Here he went straight to the .... basement. The Twenter Family had never had one of those before, living in the South. But he made himself right at home in the gross party under the basement steps. {that was supposed to say "part", but "party" is even funnier & more fitting}

January 2010, I lose it, seeing how much random stuff I have saved in the basement. I decide it's time to {game show voice} "USE IT or LOSE IT." I pull out the rocking horse. He & I have quite a history. Of completely ignoring one another. I decide ... I haven't dragged him across the country for nothing. Brett might not have gotten his cute horse for his nursery. Davis didn't either. But by golly ... my 35 month old was going to get herself a rocking horse. I knew if I put the horse in the "keep" pile, action had to be swift. {No time to lose, right?} Like ... get out the sander. So I did. I sanded that puppy down within the hour. The perm didn't smooth out completely ... he's still got some texture in there {his roots, ha ha}. But the heavy eyeliner has been removed. {Is it just me or did he sort of look like Michael Jackson before?}

Now it's all finished. Hand-painted by mommy. Her name is Sweet Molasses. Libby likes her. So I guess she's a keeper ... as if dragging it around the past 8 1/2 years didn't already prove that.

Sweet Molasses---I saw her in the basement last weekend but didn't really get a good look at her---I tried not to look at her because she was always so freaky looking. She just hurt my eyes.

Sorry, Sweet Molasses, I didn't know you'd had a make-over.

i KNOW the make-over isn't spectacular. :) ha ha ... i just wanted it DONE. and i kept it simple. didn't want it too bedazzled. and the snout & eyes are WAY harder to get right, than they look! i can see why the mystery designer from before just busted out the permanent marker! but... whatever. it's DONE. she's not perfect, but i think it hurts your eyes less. {right?}

She is awesome! I hope Libby enjoys playing with her [and coloring on her and giving her eyeliner like I did with my toys (just teasing)]. Good work.
