We discovered this
amazing therapy group here in town. We signed up Brett for 2 camps, one of which was "Creative Arts Community". It was art therapy, but with about 4 other kids. He loved it, grew close with the other kids, and I grew close with some of the moms while we waited in the waiting room (play area, really!).

At the end of the 8 weeks, they displayed all the artwork in the hallway for a little "Art Show". It was neat to see the things they worked on individually & as a group.

The therapist was an
amazing person who is also the owner of "
Sky's the Limit Studio,LLC". You can check out her website
here. She has all sorts of resources for art & autism on her site! I wish every kid (with special needs or not) had opportunities to explore their creative side. It is GREAT therapy even for me.

Since the original post, I have added the above pictures - of his body tracing & the famous "puffy paint art". I discovered that clay & puffy paint weren't Brett's medium of expertise. But I know that with art therapy, it's not the finished product that matters, it's the process of creating it. I was told that the red & white clay ball I saw
originally was a person... but I'm sure Brett couldn't keep from continuing to play with it -
thus the little ball I saw. (Sorry, no photos of the ball of clay.)
After Brett's art show, we celebrated by getting some TCBY. I thought Libby & I could share the cup of vanilla yogurt w/ gummy bears... but she shrieked if I even came close. Saved me some calories... but next time I'll get my own. :)
