Gifts for my Princesses
We celebrated an early Christmas on Sunday! On this side of the family I have 1 nephew & 2 nieces. The 2 nieces came before our daughter, Libby, & actually were what helped seal the deal on my desire for our 3rd to be a GIRL. {They are 4 1/2 & 3 1/2}
I always try & make a portion of their gift ... I try to grant their wishes for something they asked for, but I always try to make them something. This year I decided to tackle those beautiful felt crowns you may have seen here & there. I googled some key words "felt princess crowns tutorial", etc. I can't remember my exact search words, but it did lead me to this blog ---> "Juicy Bits" & its tutorial called "C is for Crown".
I don't have the patience to follow patterns word for word ... plus I had already bought my own embellishments so the designing aspects I did myself. But I helped myself to her free [for personal use only!] pattern which I used to trace the crown & I really appreciated her measurements for the elastic piece & the fabric scrunchy-like elastic cover!!! {Thank you!} And I am not a professional sewer so don't look too closely at my stitches. ;)
Here were my materials I used:
- White felt {I doubled up & used 2 sheets sewn together}
- Pink felt {for the initials}
- Glue
- Pink glitter
- Bronze glitter
- Sage green grosgrain ribbon
- Hot pink geraniums {artificial}
- Pink scrap fabric {for elastic cover}
- Elastic
- Pink thread
Everything was sewed on ... the glue was only used for the glitter. I covered the initials in glue & glitter {pink} & I dotted the centers of the flower with glue & used the bronze glitter. I almost decided not to do initials because I couldn't get the design to work out ... but then I thought "the whole point of having something CUSTOM is having it made specifically for that person." So I reworked my design & included the intials. I loved the way they turned out! And actually... when I had the crowns all lined up to take the photo, I noticed that they were lined up L.E.K. which was their great-grandmother's initials. {They never got to meet her, neither did I} It never occured to me that their first initials make up their great-grandmother's initials, but I thought it was pretty special.

These are awesome! Great idea! I know Bug would love them very much and I am sure every girl in your family did too. Bug opened her very special gift made by you and bought by her Aunt Dana on the 26! We were surprised! Its wonderful! Thank you! Then Dana told them the story of how you two became friends. Now I have to find the perfect spot for it.
