cREaTe has relocated!

cREaTe has moved to the south.  Already feels a bit warmer, too.  ;) ha.  Actually, I'm thinking about going out to buy a space heater.  cREaTe relocated only by about 12 feet to the south of the basement.  It's freakin' COLD down here.  I'm not going to sugar coat it.  I have a fleece on & am thinking about getting some gloves on.

When we moved in this house about 18 months ago, cREaTe got set up in the basement.  It worked out okay.  I wasn't in love with my new surroundings, but I tried to at least LIKE it.

In August, I slowly took over the dining room.  It just sort of happened.  I liked being where all the action was & not down in the dungeon.  But ART is just a messy hobby... and so soon the mess took over the dining room.  It was hard to find enough places to "hide" all my canvases, paints, etc.

This past weekend, I decided to try & LIKE the basement again.  I came down here & just stood in the middle, thinking about configurations, thinking about what worked, what didn't work & what could make it better.

I decided to move the "cREaTe Studio" to the side of the basement where all our storage was.  I think subconsciously it was depressing to walk past all our JUNK & CLUTTER ... it was hard to feel inspired walking past all that.  I also had shelf envy.  I liked the shelving the storage area got, better than what we bought for cREaTe last year.  So I turned the basement inside out & upside down.  Every storage bin, piece of luggage, sleeping bag, cooler & holiday decoration box got moved.  And once the shelves were all cleaned off, I started to bring in cREaTe's own boxes, bins & clutter.

Now when you come down the steps, you see cREaTe's studio & not all our cr@p.  Okay, to some [Kyle] you'll still see cr@p, but I think it's a little more aesthetic than before.  :)  I still have a ton of work to do, but here are some pictures.  Set your expectations low.  It's still a basement.  I'm not a contractor, just a girl trying to make the best use of our space in our cozy home.  Getting the basement finished is on the list ... but it's about 2 years off.  And we all know good things come to those that wait!

Oh my WORD I need a space heater.  I'm shivering...

Here's my new area.  Behind the curtain is the storage.  So now you really only see it when you need to & when you walk down the basement steps you now see this.

Here are some fun things I'll use one day... the table I found at the curb at a house across from the boys' school.  I painted it pale green.  No place to put it yet, but it'll find its home some day - maybe in my studio.  The chairs I got at my neighbor's Yard Sale this past summer.  $10 each!  I love them... and someday will re-cover them with some fun fabric.  :)  I'd love to have them all finished one day for when cREaTe gets a real studio.  But 'til then, I'm really not in a hurry.  :)

This was a sisal rug the previous owners left in the basement.  Last year I painted it to use over in my cREaTe area.
The basement is still a work in progress... I'll show you more pictures as I get more settled in.

Who needs drywall when you have sheets? Just think you can replace them anytime you need a change of scenery!
