I'm feeling pretty lucky to have found this. But I think Miss Libby will feel like the luckiest girl in the whole wide world because she gets to sleep in this regal bed. I'm going to paint it [haven't decided on the color] ... and I'm already envisioning pretty floral garlands draped across some of those spindles at the foot of the bed. Oh. It's so pretty. She's a lucky, lucky girl.
[P.S. It came with wooden side rails, too ... along with the horizontal slats]

Dad said to check to see if it is walnut before you paint it. My vote is that it's not walnut based on a scratch across the back.
It is really beautiful---I think you and miss Libby will have fun with it, as will the boys when they discover they can toss rings over the spindles! HA!
I asked a couple guys at the yard sale & after one joked that he thought it was maybe "BALSA" :) ha, he thought maybe walnut on the bottom, but maybe pine at the top of the headboard. i did want to get some opinions before i announced i was painting it! :)
oh my gosh!! i'm so jealous..libby is so lucky! that bed is awesome!! i love it...what a find!!!
Beautiful! I found Caroline's first (and current) "big bed" at a garage sale on our street. It's a half canopy and I painted it and I'm still so happy to see it when I go in her room, 17 years later. Have fun!
