... was my favorite part. I was e-mailed photos of this house ... and their adorable dog had followed the owner out & was sitting on the driveway. He was so cute just sitting there ... I asked the client {our friend ... but "client" sounds way cooler} if it would be "random, cheesy or cute" if I painted their dog sitting in the driveway. He liked it. I don't think he used the word "cute", but he liked it. :) This house portrait [like all of them I do] was an 8x10. The dog sits smaller than a penny. Just a small little detail ... but I liked the personal touch it added.
I can't write about this house portrait without telling this funny story. A few months ago, my friend's husband contacted me about painting a portrait of their house to give as an anniversary gift to his wife. About two days later, I got another inquiry about a house portrait ... for the same house. :) My friend was wanting to get the same thing as an anniversary gift for her husband. So I forwarded the inquiry to her husband ... to which he quickly wrote back from his Blackberry, "I ASKED YOU FIRST!" :) He & I discussed the different scenarios ... and in the end, I knew he should get the glory because he did indeed ask me first. So I told her I was worried about the timeline ... which was a teensy bit true, but largely exaggerated. Back in May I was indeed slowed down after catching up from my fundraiser. But, I pushed off the idea {to her} as a possible Christmas gift for her husband, since I didn't think I could pull it off in time. Hopefully now she has plenty of time to come up with a Christmas gift to replace this one.
Thanks to you BOTH for thinking of me. :)

Rachel - I LOVE the painting! And, so funny you talked about Herc because seriously that is one of my favorite parts about the picture! We have an invisible fence, and Herc is ALWAYS sitting at the end of the driveway watching the kids play in the cul-du-sac. When I look at this painting in years to come, and I see the dog sitting there, it'll remind me of the days when my kids were young playing in the cul-du-sac. Love it! Thank you so much! And, that whole story is funny - can't believe we both thought of the same anniversary gift to give eachother.
