Creative, Resourceful & Determined ..

This story might not be funny if you don't know Brett. He is ... just one of those kids who continues to surprise us. He doesn't always let us know what he's thinking ... sometimes you have to piece it together yourself. Similar to the puzzle piece that represents Autism, come to think of it. If you pay attention, however, he leaves clues as to what is trying to do. Sometimes they're blatant and other times they're so subtle you might not notice them.

Well, these clues were pretty obvious. Rewind to middle of August. The day before school started, he & I went to school to meet his teacher. She was enthusiastically listing off all the major projects & events that they were going to be doing throughout the second grade year. I don't know if he heard anything after "Underwater Puppet Show".

She had Brett ... Hook, Line & Sinker.

For the hours, days & weeks that followed, Brett asked [both me and apparently the teacher, too] about the Underwater Puppet Show. Unfortunately, he didn't catch the part where she said "in the Spring". I knew it was going to be a long wait.

Except Brett can't wait. So he's taking matters into his own hands. I'm finding traces of an Underwater Puppet Show everywhere. There are fish of various size, shape & color. Starfish. Jellyfish. And even what appears to be the perfect backdrop for this puppet show. I have found traces of it on 3 different floors of our house. He has created these puppets all on his own [we always have paper, crayons & scissors available]. He even used stickers when he couldn't find tape. I laugh every time I find a new puppet [which is a lot]. Creativity. Resourcefulness. Determination ... Three additional things I am finding with every new sea creature. :) Oh how I love this kid.
