Amazing Story of Love ...

{POV} The Way We Get By ... PBS tonight 11/11
[check your local listings for time]

I hope it's not too late. I meant to write this earlier, but then I lost track of what day / date it was. But today is Veteran's Day. Kyle & I celebrated with lunch at Applebee's where his meal was free. {THANK YOU, Applebees!}

Tonight I will be watching & recording an amazing story that I first learned of a couple years ago. I cried as read the story of this amazing group of senior citizens from Bangor, Maine who volunteered to thank, welcome home & farewell our men and women who are off to war. Their story is life-changing ...
The Way We Get By takes a look behind the hearty smiles, handshakes, heartfelt thanks and free cookies and cell phones the greeters bring to the airport, and discovers a world in which the seniors are engaged in their own struggles with aging, disease, loneliness, memories of war and personal loss. The film discovers a remarkable symbiosis between the soldiers' fighting mission and the greeters' fight to overcome pain, fatigue and depression in making sure no soldier departs or returns without thanks.
I wish I could make everyone watch it. But I can't. I can only encourage you to take the time out of your day to hit record or to settle down on the couch ... for just 90 minutes.

I think it's the least we could do to honor those who have given us more than that ... and in some cases their entire lives. And I think this group of senior citizens will inspire you to live your life with a purpose.

"Sometimes all it takes is a handshake to change a life."
