I don't believe I have ever sent fan mail before. But this story moved me enough to do it. It was for a local boy named Kyle Weafer. His story was on the front page of our newspaper, the Kansas City Star. He is a senior in high school who is Autistic and is up for the High School Football Rudy Awards {winner announced some time today!}.
Despite all odds, he proved to everyone he knew that he could overcome the impossible. The impossible, of course is all relative. And as a mother to an Autistic boy myself ... I can understand what it is like to watch your son overcome his impossible. I read every word of the article & was just totally captivated by his story. I cried, I voted, I clicked on another link & read some more, then cried some more. I just couldn't let the story go. This boy reminds me so much of Brett ... in 10 years. I guess that's why I couldn't let it go.
I sent a card & this small [5x7] quote canvas celebrating Kyle's choice of words after he & his dad first met with the football coach. This was his own interpretation of the various commitments laid out by the football coach. "Don't be lazy". Hopefully, when he reads his own words ... he can feel over & over again what it was like to overcome his impossible. As a mother to an Autistic boy myself ... I was so proud.
Why purple? Well, you'll have to read. It was one of my favorite parts of the story. [It's so Brett.] :)
