Every Kids' Dream Room, Part II

So yesterday's project (previous post) of organizing the toys put a jump start on finishing the other 1/2 of the playroom. The boys went to the baseball game, so while Libby took a long afternoon nap I got to work.

I painted the "exterior" of the little playhouse blue. It's a CUTE little shade of blueberry! The previous homeowner had almost a whole gallon of it in the basement.

The flowers I added to enhance the outdoor feel. :) I had bought them a few years ago & had them just sitting in my stockpile of craftiness. I painted over the lavender with a red... just because the boys are starting to feel iffy about pink, purple & flowers. So I thought I'd meet them 1/2 way & paint the flowers red.

For the "interior", I gave the walls & ceiling a fresh coat of white just to cover up the scuffs. I never noticed it before but there were little brackets for holding a curtain rod & also a little picture hanger! So I made a little frame in which I put a picture of the boys from when they met Buzz & Woody in Orlando.

The curtains were actually from B & D's nursery! I just cut them down a bit with pinking shears. If you have a preschooler, you'll recognize the chair as Steve/Joe's "Thinking Chair" [Blues Clues]. Eventually I'd like to get 2 beanbag chairs so there's no fighting... but for now the Thinking Chair is perfect! I'm sure I'll still put on little touches here & there... for instance I know I want to put a little knob on the outside of the door! But I don't want to accessorize too much... I know in 5 years or so the room will probably be Libby's. So I'll just hold off on the doilies & knick-knacks 'til it's occupied by a little lady who will appreciate the extra touches. If the boys have their dad's decorating sense, then I'm sure with them less is more.

Anyway, the surprise was a HIT. And finishing off that room just added about 12 feet of living space! (at least for the "short ones" of the house...)

I cannot believe you put that all together in such a short time! It looks wonderful---can't wait to see it.

Yeah... I decided to do it about 15 minutes after they left. Initially I was going to paint the interior & exterior with the blue. But at the last minute decided only to paint the exterior. The interior I just touched up, so that went by really fast. Honestly, it's just a SMALL SPACE - so it just didn't take that long. I finished about a 1/2 hour before they got home, just enough time to clean up the evidence so I could REALLY surprise them!

Rachel - you are super mom. I feel inadequate! My kids have no paint on their walls at all. I think I need to fly you out here for a few days to spice up our life with some color!

That is amazing! I want some more shots of the kids using it...if it were me I think I'd be playing drive thru restaurant.
