Up, down & all around ...
Growing up, whenever we took a trip to the East or the Southeast [a majority of the direction we'd travel by car]... it always greeted us as we crossed back into Missouri. It always symbolized that we were home. You can see it from the highway ... and whoever in the car spots it first is the first to always announce "there's the Arch!" When Kyle & I lived in Jacksonville, FL we made countless trips back to Missouri ... and the Arch always meant the same thing to me - home.
I hadn't been up in the Arch, however, since I was a kid. I think it had been about 20 years. And now that we live on the west side of Missouri, we rarely get to see the Arch even when we drive in to town. So last weekend when we were in St. Louis visiting my family, we took the kids to see the Arch - up close & personal & its view from the top. You ride up in one of the little egg-shaped elevator cars that seat 5. After a 4 minute tight-quartered, herky-jerky ride, you are up. From 630 feet up in the sky you can see the Mississippi River [it is flooded at the moment], bridges, highways, Busch Stadium, fun buildings & ponds, and little people milling around. Quite a sight. But I think my favorite view still is the one from the car, on the highway, coming back home from where you've been. I love coming home. :)

[fun pics too]
i remember that feeling! we'd always feel the same way when we would come back from visiting family or friends...the arch was home. we took so many trips to the arch while we lived in st. louis...some really great memories in that city!!
I LOVE the pic of Libby with her nose smushed up against the glass! Very cool pics. I need to plan a trip to MO - I have never been.
I loved going to the arch! My husband and I went a couple of years ago without the kids and I really want to take the kid soon. Of course I hope it is not as windy out when we go back! ;)
