Melted Heart ...
This boy melted my heart last night. When I picked up Davis from school, he told me his friend's mom [a Dentist] had been in to talk to the class. Fast forward several hours later, and I had him brush his teeth right before bed. I didn't make the connection at first because of the lapse of time, but now I get it :) [Brushing teeth = Dentist]. However, at the time, I was caught off guard when he said "Mom, will you come in and talk to my class?" Puzzled, I said, "Why?" [again totally forgetting] He then said, "Come in & talk to my friends. And you can show them your paintings."
I giggled on the inside, just a little ... and told him "Oh. Maybe! Yeah, we'll see!" You know, that canned answer when you're like "HA! Right." Then my heart melted. For multiple reasons. That was probably one of the best compliments I have ever received. As a mother & as an artist. Sometimes you never really know who appreciates you. Every once in awhile I get some of the sweetest messages sent to me & I am so honored that someone seeks me out, comes back a year or more later after seeing my shop, or even comes back to have me paint something additional for them. Oddly enough, all these have happened this week. :) But, it doesn't happen very often. So usually I just keep on keepin' on, knowing as long as I'm having fun, I have the time & the creative urge - I can paint. Then I take pictures. Pay my 20¢, per listing & put it up for sale. I am not a business woman. I truly am just a mom who paints when the stars align. That's pretty much my 'business plan'. Lofty, I know.
Apparently, Davis takes me more seriously than I take myself. What a refreshing way to look at myself & my work ... through the eyes of a 6 1/2 year old. He looks up to me. His dad's a cool pilot who comes back with fun stories & awesome souvenirs. And apparently, I am not just someone who lifts a paintbrush when I'm bored. I am a creative genius & skilled artist who paints masterpieces that everyone admires & wants in their home. What a compliment. :)
