The Importance of Good Bones ...

Back when I watched HGTV 24/7, I always heard the term "good bones" to talk about a good quality house or piece of furniture. Good structure. Good design.

I bought this dining room table at a yard sale about 7 years ago. {I wrote about it here in this post} I paid $40 for it. I think the only reason it hadn't sold yet {I am NOT an early bird} was because the people had put the table together wrong. They had the legs facing the wrong way under the table top. {i.e. instead of >< ... they had it like <> .} So basically, if you didn't know any better, you'd think ... how on earth will chairs fit underneath??? Luckily, I knew better. [After, I admit, the aforementioned question did flash across my mind :) ha] So the table came home with me. I LOVED IT. And the good thing about "good bones", is that I STILL LOVE IT as much as I did the day I bought it. If not more.

I have a list [in my head] of things I wanted to do once the kids were in school. Re-cover the seats on the dining room chairs was one of them. That project required me to paint the table top [the very top, flat surface, not the lip around the edge on top]. It was terracotta - which looked terrible with the new red seats.
{BEFORE}

... But after I painted the table top cream, it looked terrible with the base. Too stark. So. I did something that I had always chickened out of the 7 years that I've owned this table. I painted the base.

And again yet again ... I love her even more than the day I bought her. She looks so fresh & beautiful. Color schemes come in & out. Fabric gets faded & dirty. But good bones are irreplaceable. Yay for good bones. :)
