Nostalgic sledding ...

Last week when I was staying at my parents house over Christmas break, I took the kids up to my elementary school to go sledding.  It's where we always went on the "good" sledding days.  We even had the exact sleds my sisters & I used back in the day.  That orange circle one with the blue handles is about 30 years old. We tried out 3 different hills which gave us many opportunities to check out the school & peek in some windows.

Ahhh ... elementary school.  There is nothing like it.  My kids go to the same school their dad went to, so this was neat getting to show them a little bit of mine & tell some stories. :)  We peeked in the doors of the cafeteria ... ahhh pretty much the same.  Then we peeked in another set of doors & immediately wanted to be a kid again at Henry School.

This photo is one of the coolest spots in the whole school.  The stairs on the upper left to up to the main level of the school, the stairs going up on the right go to the library & the stairs going down go to my favorite spot of all, the Art Room.  So cool.  Peeking in through the glass, my heart skipped a beat.  Oh I loved this place.

After sledding, we came back to my parents where we put the kettle on for some hot chocolate. [The shot of Davis in the kettle, he had just called me over to see his long neck.  But when I got there, from my angle, he just had a sweet pig nose!] :)  My kids sat at the same table, in the same kitchen where my sisters & I used to sip hot chocolate after an outing sledding at Henry School.  When so much can & does change in our world & our lives ... it's so nice to get that little taste of nostalgia. [With marshmallows on the side, of course!]

what a fantastic post!! i love that your kids were able to see apart of your history and for you to "relive" some of it. it's always nice to step back into the good parts of your past. oh and we totally had that sled you mentioned with the blue handles. we also had the really thin red rectangular ones that would roll up when not in use. those would make you fly down the hills! sledding was one of my favorite things to do during winter break! our whole family would sled down my aunt's driveway (on Christmas day)which was a huge hill that was long and windy. so fun!! the pig nose is so sweet. hehe!
